Why We Chose Adoption

Exploring a Nearby Downtown

We believe that being a parent is a wonderful blessing. Every child is a gift from God, and we feel privileged for the opportunity to care and nurture a child and watch them grow and mature into adults. Time goes by really quickly. We have enjoyed the process of learning how to care for children, being in tune with their needs, and working diligently to make sure the child is well taken care of. Even though our son is only three years old, we are amazed at how smart and funny he is. Even though parenting can sometimes be difficult—like when the baby isn't sleeping well and you're tired—the wonderful moments we share with the child make it well worth it.

Before we met, we both considered adoption as part of our family planning. When Dayna was in high school, she was friends with a girl that had been adopted along with her brother and sister. The love these parents showed their children had a strong impression on Dayna. Justin's interest in adopting stemmed from his belief in the power of adoption considering that Christians are adopted into the family of God through Jesus Christ. While dating, we discussed the possibility of adoption and were happy to find that we were on the same page. In the process of trying to conceive another child, Dayna experienced medical complications and was advised by doctors not to become pregnant again. This led us back to the idea of adopting. We are excited to grow our family through adoption and fulfill our longstanding desires to adopt a child.

Our Leisure Time

Relaxing By the Bay

In our leisure time, we like visiting parks and playgrounds near our home, strolling around the beautiful urban and outdoor spaces in our county, trying new restaurants, and visiting local attractions like zoos, museums, and children's amusement parks. We both enjoy cooking. Justin likes experimenting with different combinations of foods and trying out new ways to BBQ for the family. Dayna enjoys baking and cooking healthy meals for the family. Our toddler likes helping Dayna in the kitchen. During the summer months, we like visiting beaches and locations near the ocean to stay cool. In the winter, we sometimes rent a cabin in the mountains to enjoy the snow. Before we had our son, we used to travel internationally at least once a year. We look forward to traveling outside of our state and country with our children when they are older. There are so many wonderful things to see in the world that we would like to share with our children.

Cultural Diversity

Justin is Chinese, and was born in San Francisco. Growing up, he spent a lot of time in San Francisco's Chinatown and participated in Chinese holidays, including Chinese New Year, but unfortunately he never learned to speak or read Chinese. Before he met Dayna, he attended several Chinese churches, but has since found a church with a congregation of many different races.

Dayna is Black, and she was born in Northern California. Her family has roots in Louisiana. Both of her parents were born and raised in Baton Rouge. Dayna has always been interested in other cultures. When she was a teenager, she was interested in Japanese culture. In college, she took two classes in Chinese history, studied Japanese in a formal class and on her own, and taught English in Japan for a summer. She is still interested in learning about her own and others' cultures.

Together, we celebrate our heritages through conversation, books, and experiences. Based on our own experiences, we understand the importance of celebrating our differences and recognizing the obstacles that minorities face. We look forward to learning about and celebrating the heritage of your child and helping them to appreciate their history and culture.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We live in a suburban neighborhood in Northern California, about 30 miles north of San Francisco. Our city is very diverse, and there are many families with young children in our neighborhood and city. Our home is close to the local elementary school, parks with play areas for young and older children, and community pools. Our house is also within walking distance of the local high school where Justin works as a teacher.

We live in a single story house with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. We have a front yard with a grassy area where children can play and a wraparound deck at the back of our home. Our house has an open kitchen and living room, which leaves plenty of space for children to play inside. The county we live in has beautiful landscapes, including hills, creeks, waterfalls, oceans, and fields. There are many lovely walking and hiking trails and places for families with young children to gather and relax.

Our city holds many different events, including Farmer's Markets, parades, and art and music events. San Francisco is only a short drive away, and we often travel to San Francisco to visit museums, parks, restaurants, and other attractions.

Our Extended Families

With Dayna's Mom

We see our extended families often throughout the year. Dayna is the oldest child in her family, and Justin has a younger sister and brother. Justin's brother has two daughters around the age of 5. Dayna's extended family lives only about 45 minutes away, and Justin's extended family lives about an hour and a half away.

Justin's FAmily

We get together with Justin's extended family to celebrate birthdays and holidays like Chinese New Year, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Justin's parents are retired, which gives them plenty of time to spend with their grandchildren. Dayna's mom often visits our home to spend time with our son, and go on outings or out to meals. We sometimes spend Thanksgiving or Christmas with Dayna's extended family. We have a few family traditions that we enjoy, including visiting the pumpkin patch in October and decorating a Christmas tree and our living room in December.

We are a multicultural family with several races represented, including Chinese American, Black, and White. We and both of our extended families are excited about our adoption plans and are ready to welcome a child into our loving family.

From Us to You

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to review our profile. We understand that this is a stressful time for you and you may be feeling overwhelmed. We thank you for taking a few minutes to learn about our family and consider us in your adoption plans.

We have been married for 13 years and together as a couple for about 14 years. We have one biological son, a three-year-old boy named Harlan. We waited about ten years before having children. We wanted to grow closer as a couple, explore the world, grow as individuals, and become established in our finances and careers before growing our family. We feel that we are in a very good place personally, financially, and professionally. We own our home, have adequate finances, and are established in our careers. We live in a safe and diverse community and have family close by.

We have always wanted more than one child. About a year and a half after having our son, we started trying for another child. However, Dayna suffered medical complications, and doctors advised her not to become pregnant again. This was a very difficult time for us, but we were reminded of a conversation we had when we were dating.

While dating, we found that we were both interested in adopting, and decided to keep this in mind for our future family planning. After much thought and prayer, we decided adoption was the right path for us. We are very excited to be on this journey! Our son is also very excited and often asks when he can meet his little brother or sister.

We are also excited to get to know you, if you choose us. We are happy to send letters, pictures, and updates to you so that you may see your child's milestones and how they are growing. We are also open to more communication, such as exchanging emails or text messages, phone or video calls, creating a shareable cloud-based photo album, and some in-person visits. We are happy to work with you to find the level of communication that works for all of us. We want you to be a part of your child's life, if that's what you desire.

We promise that we will, with God as our ever-present help, be the best parents we can possibly be. We have already been keeping you and your child in our prayers. We have some experience raising a child and intend to use those skills to help raise another child.

As a high school teacher, Justin is especially looking forward to spending his school breaks playing with our children and teaching them skills to help them grow and learn. Dayna looks forward to nurturing and providing so much love to our children. Harlan looks forward to playing with and protecting his sibling. As a family, we plan to read and tell stories, have great conversations and much laughter, explore the world, visit museums and playgrounds, and taste different kinds of foods.

Thank you again for taking the time to read our profile. We know you have many options and decisions to make. Even though you may be feeling overwhelmed, we are certain that you will find the right family for your child. We hope that we are the right family for your child and that you will consider us.

Take care and we wish you the best!
